Spring ’18 Sephora VIB Sale

Yesterday, the spring Sephora VIB sale started, so I thought I would round up some of my favorite skin care and makeup products to make your shopping easier.  I also included some products that I’ve been eyeing up or just think would be good options too!  A lot of these products don’t go on sale often, that’s why it’s a great time to stock up on some of your holy grail products and also try some new products.  When looking at new products to try, I always like to purchase some more expensive products during the sale so I can try them without paying full price.

You can shop this sale if you’re a beauty insider, VIB , or Rouge member.  If you’re VIB or Rouge, you can receive 15% off with the codes YAYVIB and YAYROUGE.  If you’re a beauty insider, you can receive 10% off with the code YAYINSIDER.  This shale runs through Monday, April 23rd.  To shop any of the products I talk about below, simply score through the slides and click any of the images.  You’ll be taken to the direct link.  I’ve also linked a few items in the information below the categories.  You can click these as well to be taken to direct links.

Sephora VIB Sale

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, beauty lovers!  Every year around this time. Sephora has their biggest sale of the year.  All products and brands are 20% off for VIB and Rouge members.  Insiders can get 15% off as well.  Sephora only has two sales a year with the other being in the spring.  A lot of these brands/products rarely go on sale, so it’s definitely the time to shop.

This is  my favorite time to stock up on beauty products from Sephora!  My strategy when shopping this sale is to buy my go-to products that I need for back-ups or I’m running low on, as well as new products that I’ve been wanting to try out.  When looking at new products to try, I do tend to buy some more expensive items that really never go on sale.  I’m going to break down products in this post by what I’ve bought so far, what’s currently in my cart, and other wishlist items/picks.

Yves Saint Laurent (YSL) Makeup Review

As some of you may know from a previous blog post/video, I had the opportunity to review two new Yves Saint Laurent (YSL) makeup products.  If you missed my initial unboxing post/video of these products, you can see it here.  I received these products from the Influenster VoxBox.  The two products that I will be reviewing today are the Touche Eclat Blur Perfector and the Touche Eclat Blur Primer.

Touche Eclat Blur Perfector

The first thing I noticed about this product was the beautiful packaging!  I love it and think it looks very elegant with the pink and gold.  This product is advertised as going from a balm to a powder.  I’ve never used a product like this so I was very excited to try it out!  It’s a blur perfector compact that perfects the skin while retaining its luminous glow.  This product can be used three ways: alone as an allover complexion perfector, to set makeup, or as a mattifying touch up.

I decided to use this product to set my makeup after applying foundation and concealer.  I found that the sponge applicator was a bit annoying to use this product.  I think it would be easier to apply with a brush.  However, I’m not sure how it would work with a brush since it goes from a balm to a powder.  After using this product several times, I just thought it was a meh product.  I didn’t hate it or love it.  I found that my makeup/skin didn’t look any different when using this product than when I didn’t use it.  This product is $55, which is an outrageous price in my opinion.  I would never spend this amount of money on this sort of product and after reviewing it, I wouldn’t recommend this product to anyone.  There are plenty of other products out there that are cheaper and do just as good, if not better of a job than this product.

Touche Eclat Blur Primer

This product is described as an illuminating primer that blurs imperfections and boosts the radiance of foundation.  I noticed that this primer has golden shimmer and I was worried how this would look when I applied to my skin.  However, it luckily didn’t seem to make a difference and I didn’t notice my face looking shimmery or shiny.  This primer has a thinner, gel-like consistency and feels a bit greasy.  I found out the hard way that less is more with this product.  The first few times I applied this product, I realized that I applied too much.  I noticed throughout the day that my skin was a oilier, especially in my nose area.  I then started applying a very little amount and that seemed to do the trick!  This primer does absorb quickly into the skin, which is always a plus in my book.  It also feels light-weight.

This product is expensive at well, retailing at $52.  Again like the blur perfector, I don’t think this product is worth the price at all.   This primer didn’t wow me.  It was just okay.  I’ve used several other primers that are cheaper that I like much better than this one.  I can’t imagine ever spending this amount of money on an everyday product like a primer.

Overall, I really wanted to love both of these products because I was excited about both.  However, they unfortunately are just so-so products to me that aren’t worth they expensive price tag.  Now, i don’t want to completely discourage you from trying these products because I have read good reviews on them on Sephora.com.  If you are interested in trying these products, I would definitely recommend trying them out in the store prior to buying them.

Let me know if you’ve tried these products or plan on trying them in the comments below!

What’s in My Travel Makeup Bag: NYC Prep Part 2

It’s time for the second post in our NYC Prep series! In today’s post, I’m going to be sharing with you what I’m taking in my travel makeup bag.  When traveling, I really try to take makeup that I know I will use when I’m on the trip and not just pack a bunch of unnecessary makeup.  For this New York City trip, I think I did a pretty good job at packing only makeup that I’ll use.  I do have “extras” of a few makeup items, but only because I don’t know exactly what I’m all going to be doing while I’m in New York City yet.  Now, let’s take a look inside my makeup bag! makeup3 This makeup bag might look familiar to you if you watched my Ulta haul from last week or read that post.  I did decide to take this bag with me to New York since it has the two separate compartments. makeup2 First off, excuse my dirty makeup!  The packaging on these three items are all so hard to keep clean and I had just cleaned them, but clearly they didn’t stay that way for long.  Anyways, I decided to take two palettes with me on this trip because I think it’s easier to have everything in one place rather than a bunch of different containers.  Plus I”m really obsessed with my Lorac Pro palette and decided that I have to have it with me.  I originally wasn’t going to bring my NARS cheek palette with me, but then I decided to since it has a highlighter, my favorite bronzer (laguna), and four blushes. makeup1 When going on vacations, I really try to take the travel size version of any makeup I have.  Luckily I have this travel size Urban Decay All Nighter setting spray and a travel size eye shadow primer from Lorac that came with my Lorac Pro palette. makeup I somehow managed to narrow down my lip products to only three, which I think is pretty good considering I haven’t planned my outfits at all yet.  I think the shades that I’m bringing will go with a variety of outfits though!  For foundation, I decided to bring my Laura Mercier Silk Creme foundation because the packaging is really easy to travel with.  Some of my other liquid foundations are in glass bottles so they aren’t very travel-friendly!  I’m bringing a travel size of the Better than Sex mascara from Too Faced as well.  I really like this mascara, but haven’t bought it in the full size yet! If you want to see me talk more in depth about my makeup and my makeup bag, watch the video below! http://youtu.be/pMyaCYh9xNs Stay tuned for our next post/video in our NYC Prep series later this week! -Michelle
