My Engagement Story: Rachel

I can’t believe that it’s already been almost two weeks since Michael and I got engaged! It’s already been a whirlwind of celebrating and planning. Now that the shock has started to wear off, I decided it’s time to share the proposal story with you!

I went to visit Michael in Illinois for a long weekend to celebrate our 5 year anniversary of dating. We didn’t have much planned besides enjoying time together since we don’t always get to see each other. November 4th started out as a normal day for us. We watched our college football game and planned what we were going to do later to celebrate our anniversary.

We decided to get dressed up and go out to eat downtown. We went to a cute Italian restaurant where we were seated at a corner table. We ordered, ate our main dish, and were waiting for dessert. At this point, Michael told me we should take a picture since I had made him promise to take one with me sometime that night. Even though I wanted to wait until we could take one standing up I agreed. When the waiter came back over I asked him if he minded taking a picture of us. I gave the waiter my phone and when I turned back to Michael he was reaching for a ring and going down on one knee. At first I thought he was joking, but when I realized it was actually happening I started to cry. Everything he said was sweet and perfect. It turned out that he had always planned for us to go out to eat there and had let the restaurant know he was planning on proposing. We celebrated afterward with drinks and letting our family know.
