Essie Gel Couture Nail Polish Review

If you’re looking for a long lasting nail polish without having to pay the nail salon price, this is the nail polish you should try! We were a little hesitant about trying Essie gel nail polish at first since it’s more expensive than the regular Essie nail polish, but we’re glad we did. Read our review below to see our detailed thoughts on this nail polish!

This nail polish was everything we could hope for and more! Regular nail polish can start to chip as little as a day or two after you paint your nails. The Essie Gel Couture nail polish almost always lasts at least a full week with no to very minimal chipping.  However, it still doesn’t last as long as getting a gel manicure at the salon.

On a positive note, your nails don’t feel brittle after you take off this nail polish like they do when you remove a professional gel manicure. One huge benefit we found with this nail polish is that you typically only need one coat of nail polish compared to two or three coats with other brands/types.  This cuts down the time it takes to paint your nails majorly.  Going along with only having to use one coat, the nail polish wand is very wide and flat.  This also helps with cutting down the time it takes to paint your nails.  When we first started using this nail polish, the wide wand did take a little getting used to.

When painting your nails with this nail polish, there are two steps.  Step one is painting your nails with your color of choice.  Step two is using the Essie top coat that goes along with this line.  This top coat seems to work really well with this nail polish.  We’re honestly not sure if the top coat is what makes this nail polish last so long or the nail polish itself.  We’ve never used this nail polish without the top coat that goes along with it.  We do use this top coat when we paint our nails with any other nail polish as well.

Step 1: Nail Polish Color Step 2: Top Coat

A bottle of gel nail polish costs $11.50 compared to $8.99 for the regular Essie nail polish. It’s obviously a bit more expensive, but that’s to be expected since it’s a gel nail polish.  You’ll have to decide for yourself whether or not the higher price is worth it in the end.  We certainly think it is since this nail polish lasts longer and it also takes us less time to paint our nails. Also, to put this price into perspective, if you go to the salon it costs around $35, plus tip for a gel manicure. We find this price to be worth it for the quality of nail polish.

If we had to rate this nail polish out of five stars, we would give it 4.5 stars!  As you could probably tell from our above review, we really love this nail polish.  The only reason we didn’t give it a full 5 stars is due to the fact that it doesn’t last as long as gel manicure from the salon.

That wraps up our review of the Essie Gel Couture Nail Polish line.  We are just starting our collection of this nail polish, so we can’t wait to get more colors in the near future!  This nail polish has become one of our favorites to use.  If you haven’t tried it yet, we hope that you will after reading our review!

    1. That’s too bad that you didn’t have any luck with it! We didn’t put it in this review, but we actually do use a base coat with this nail polish. We use a Sally Hansen one. You don’t necessarily need a base coat with this nail polish though, we’re just used to using one. Glad you enjoyed our review!
